The students at Merlo Community School and other programs, like Project Reset, Interim Home Instruction and CEYP come from all over Beaverton. Our PE and Health curriculum is passionate about helping students discover the ways that they like to be active. One of the main concepts, which is tied with our learning targets, is about “fitness for life” and participating in self-selected activities several times a week. Having access to a variety of equipment for “hands-on” learning to address these health concepts could put learning targets into real life practice.
All of our students at Merlo would greatly benefit from two indoor stationary bikes and a small dumbbell set of varying weights to meet not only PE and Health targets, but also support the overall wellness for all of our students who have short movement breaks throughout the day per their IEP and 504 plans. Our small student-to-staff ratio allows for adult support and supervision when using the equipment.
Merlo students would love to have access fitness equipment that is comparable to what our comprehensive and other options schools also currently have. Thank you for helping us support our students!
