Counted Out screening highlights the importance of math

A panel representing Oregon's Secretary of State, the Center for Black Excellence, and Pacific University dove into the value of math and themes from the documentary film, Counted Out.
Secretary of State Tobias Read, Aryn Frazier, and Dr. Linda Venenciano participate in panel discussion following Counted Out screening.

Building on the momentum around improving math outcomes and supporting educators in their efforts to build math skills for their students, BEF jumped at the opportunity to host a screening of Counted Out — the film that has people around the world buzzing about the language of math and the power of math education as a force for building healthy and informed communities.

Thanks to our generous partners, Oregon Community Foundation, Lewis & Clark College Graduate School of Education, and Vernier Science Education, this experience was shared with invited guests that included BEF donors, community leaders, and educators.

We were honored to follow the film with an important conversation about why math matters in Oregon from a panel of leaders that included Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read, Aryn Frazier (Center for Black Excellence), and Dr. Linda Venenciano (Pacific University).
