Meeting at Aloha Huber Park K-8 School on Friday, September 26th, we joined U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici and Beaverton School District officials to express concerns about the potential cuts to Title 1 schools. “Unfortunately, now the House Republicans want to slash Title 1 funds by about 27%,” Bonamici said. “That’s more than $5 billion.”
“Lauren Garrett, executive director of the Beaverton Education Foundation — a nonprofit that raises money for various projects throughout the district — said private philanthropy can’t come close to replacing potential Title 1 funding, noting it would impact the district’s most vulnerable students ‘who depend on steady and reliable support to close achievement gaps and improve overall educational outcomes.’”
