First Go Warriors Fund! Projects Awarded

The Aloha High School Reunion Classes are thrilled to announce the inaugural awards from the Go Warriors! Aloha High School Opportunity Fund in support of a broad range of student-centered programs and projects at Aloha High School.

The Go Warrior! Fund will be used to stimulate, support, student-engaged projects and programs. Through the fund process student led activities will support and encourage initiative, planning, problem solving, project execution and delivery skills.

Literary Magazine

Award: $500
Funding provided through the Go Warriors! Opportunity Fund

The literary magazine, Aeternum, is an award winning collection of students’ art, poetry, short stories, nonfiction, bilingual pieces, plays, architectural designs, etc. Aeternum shares the creative minds of the students at Aloha High School with the school community and with the Aloha community. We are working on ways that we can get the Literary Magazine into the larger Beaverton community. This literary magazine is an expression of literacy and helps to build a culture of literacy at Aloha High School. Funding will provide printing for a full-color magazine.

Learning with Sphero

Award: $775
Funding provided through the Go Warriors! Opportunity Fund

This project will bring in relatively simple robots, Spheros, to teach topics surrounding math, physics, coding and foster collaboration and problem-solving skills for students. These tools will be used as vehicles for learning through collaborative, “game-like,” exercises in which the students are given a problem with an open ended solution and a need to find their own creative answers. In this process, through the Sphero software, they will use block coding, use rate, time and distance variables and be able to engage in a design cycle as they prototype and test their programs. Additionally, soft skills such as collaboration and communication for team work will be exercised as students will have to work in groups of 3-4 to complete the task.

Cinco de Mayo

Award: $500
Funding provided through the Go Warriors! Opportunity Fund

This year Latino Leadership would like to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with bringing heritage and cultural awareness to the school and the community. In this celebration students from Latino Leadership will explain what the history of Cinco de Mayo is and the significance it has on Mexican-American culture. They will also take this opportunity to explain the difference between Cinco de Mayo and Mexico’s Independence Day (September 16). Latino Leadership would like to provide authentic Mexican food from a local restaurant, traditional folk dancing (ballet folklorico), and speakers from PCC. Aloha High School’s Latino Leadership will greatly benefit from your contribution to make this event possible.¡Gracias!

OSAA Speech & Debate State Championship Tournament

Award: $500
Funding provided through the Go Warriors! Opportunity Fund

Aloha High School’s Speech & Debate team has had two participants qualify for the Oregon School Activities Association Speech & Debate State Tournament. Funds will help underwrite student travel to Western Oregon University in Monmouth to compete in a three day tournament against schools from all over the state in the events of Parliamentary Debate and Radio Commentary.

PSU Women’s Leadership Summit

Award: $500
Funding provided through the Go Warriors! Opportunity Fund

Funding will provide transportation and fees for 50 Aloha High Schools students to the PSU Women’s Leadership Summit and continue the work of EmpowHER. The speakers and group work are incredibly exciting to our girls, and it inspired them to start EmpowHER, our girl’s leadership club at AHS. The club has weekly meetings to discuss different equity issues focusing on gender and has become a vital group at AHS.
